For the people of Scotland Burns Night ( 25th January) is one of the most important (and fun) events of the year. The day celebrates the life and works of the poet Robert Burns, often called Rabbie Burns, and a celebration meal and poetry reading would be a lovely way to celebrate and add a bit of culture to your day.
Robert Burns nació en Alloway, Ayrshire, Escocia el 25 de enero de 1759 y murió en Ellisland, cerca de Dumfries, 21 de julio de 1796) es el poeta en lengua escocesa más conocido. Su poema Auld Lang Syne se canta tradicionalmente en los países angloparlantes como himno de despedida.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE!
Many people believe William Shakespeare is the best playwright (writer) ever. He wrote plays but he was also an actor and a poet.
He was born in Stratford upon Avon in 1564 although we don’t know for sure the exact date of his birth.
His mum, Mary Arden, was a farmer's daughter and his dad, John Shakespeare, was a farmer turned glove-maker. In 1582, he married Anne Hathaway when he was 18 years old.
He had three children - a daughter Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. Sadly, Hamnet died when he was just 11-years-old.
Shakespeare moved to London, where he lived for 25 years. He wrote most of his plays there.
He died at his home in Stratford on April 23, 1616, the same day as Cervantes ( he was 52 years old).
Shakespeare invented around 2,000 new words. For example:
- flesh and blood
- cruel to be kind
- vanish into thin air
- the game is up
